Students were asked to submit essays about their arts education experiences and were recognized with awards at a ceremony. The project increases student visibility in the arts and provides arts education awareness. Partners included the Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Student Essay Application Process
- Describe what you think our world would be like if there were no arts, in 400 words or less. Please type if possible.
- Essays will be judged on:
1. Style and content with emphasis on thoughts, honesty and creativity.
2. Writing that is clear, articulate, and logically organized.
To Enter, please Submit the Following:
Only email submissions will be accepted.
- One copy of the official entry form, aaae-essay-contest-application-2011-12, including signature of the student and the parent or guardian of the student.
- One copy of the essay.

Rules and Deadlines:
- Essay must be postmarked no later than December 15, 2011.
- Winners will be notified on or before January 20, 2012.
Awards
A cash award will be given for the enhancement of the winners’ school arts program.
- 1st Place: $150
- 2nd Place: $100
- 3rd Place: $50
Division 1: Grades 4, 5, 6
Division 2: Grades 7, 8, 9
Division 3: Grades 10, 11, 12
Students will be invited to read their essay at their local school board meeting, where AAAE will present the check to the teacher and a certificate to the student.
